Statement: Current Work

My work reflects my growing interest in how the mind functions under the duress of disease and disorder. It illustrates conceptual translations of brain disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other diseases associated with aging and mental acuity. I am particularly concerned with how activity is altered in the brain, how the brain ages, how it processes and stores information, and how experience is translated and memories are recalled.

Holocaust Statement

The Holocaust project was a nine year involvement that began with genealogical research and an investigation into Jewish history.  My earlier work dealt with the contradictions and similarities of the Jewish Middle Ages and the Nazi Period of Authority.  I was awarded a resident fellowship in 1994 that allowed me to further explore this history.  This led me to the experiences of children in the Holocaust and their struggle for survival.  I began to focus only on these children and how they coped under the most adverse conditions.  In 1995 I received a painting fellowship from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts to continue this project, and showed the work in New York, Connecticut, North Carolina, Michigan and New Jersey.  I continued creating a number of mixed-media two dimensional and three dimensional pieces, ending the project in 2001.
